In hedges, woods, and bushy places the Bush Vetch will frequently be found.
It is a slightly hairy perennial and has a creeping rootstock, which gives off numerous runners, so that an old plant forms great masses. !ts weak and straggling stems grow to a length of one to two feet.
The leaves consist of six to eight pairs of oval leaflets, which vary in different individuals, in some having a squarish end, in others tapering shortly.
The leaf-stalkends in a tendril, usually branched. The stipules are half arrow-shaped.
The flowers are pale purple, and are produced in clusters of four to six, on short stems, from the axils of the leaves. The style has a dense tuft of hairs under the stigma on the outer side, with a few short hairs on the opposite side.
The smooth, blackish seed-pod is about an inch long, with a beak, and contains about eight seeds.
Flowering from June to September.

There are five notched petais and many stamens. The styles are free Bush vetch and hairy. The ovary is sunk in the calyx, which changes to the pitcher-shaped scarIet fruits, known as " hips," in which are the hairy achenes. The flowering period extends vetch Bush from June to August. In woods and hedgerows the Crab Apple may be found, as a rule, as a low tree, twenty or thirty feet high, sometimes more.
It has a long, fleshy, burrowing rootstock Bush vetch an inch thick, from which arise spreading stems a foot or two feet long, with splendid oblong heart - shaped leaves, fleshy, and with the margins lobed. The radical leaves, rising Bush vetch from the rootstock, lie along the ground to a length of a couple of feet. On the stout flowering stems, the leaves are much shorter, but much lobed and crisped Bush vetch. The flowers are borne in great many-branched clusters a foot across; the individual flower is white with yellow stamens and a purple pistil. The flowering period extends from May Bush vetch to August.
